First inspection: Body.

So, now that we have some good weather and some good sunlight lets see what we have.

She's rough. Very rough. Let's take a closer look at our chassis.
Probably the best trim piece on the exterior. Still not great. The luster is gone. This can be refinished.

Our original paint code and color. Datsun Paint Code 304. "Gold Metallic".

This is what our car looked like coming off the showroom floor, minus the aftermarket wheels. Kind of weird to compare to what we have now. This gives us an idea of what we have to shoot for trim wise on the front. Notice the large safety bumpers. American highway laws dictated these heavy and ugly units.

Or passenger door has seen better days. It fit's a little loose. Hopefully we can adjust the door bracket and fix the door gaps. No passenger door mirror. You'll notice a lot of torn paint and body rust. None of the rust is as bad as it looks. The body panels will all be stripped of paint and surface rust during the prep for paint.
I removed the cowl panel to look for any rust and found a lot of surface rust, but nothing major. Whats more telling is what I didn't find. No wipers. No wiring going to that bag. The bag is the wiper motor. It's in a bag to prevent damage from water. The blue paint over-spray on the bag tells me that this was not a professional respray on the paint. When we start prepping for paint this area will be painted black to match the engine bay. We'll be cleaning and the paint will be a rust-preventing high temp. black.

We have some small creases in the passenger side of the roof panel. Fixable during the prep stages.

We have a full set of 80's aftermarket wheels. These are Enkei 32's. They are 14" wheels. Most likely a 5.5 or 6 inch wide wheel. These are very light and would look be a great option if we were building a 510. For a Z however, there not big enough and not wide enough for the power we want to lay down. I will be making a later post detailing our wheel options.
